The faithful of the Archdiocese of Hartford celebrated the elevation of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II to sainthood on April 27 at St. Peter's Square at the Vatican. Priests from the Archdiocese of Hartford were on hand in Rome and several local events were scheduled in observance of the historic moment. Pope John Paul II School in New Britain was rededicated under the name St. John Paul II School. A prayer service was held at St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven, after which there was a procession with a relic of Pope John Paul II from the church to the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven, where the relic was venerated and other activities took place. Archbishop Emeritus Daniel A. Cronin of Hartford talked about the two popes the next night at the museum.
