PERPETUAL VOWS, MONASTIC CONSECRATION – Benedictine Sister Emmanuelle Hutchinson professed her perpetual vows and received monastic consecration Sept. 15 at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem. Mother Emmanuelle, as she is now known, is a Maine native and received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College. She taught for five years at Warsaw University in Poland, and then returned to America and earned her law degree from the University of Maine. She has worked in child protection and child welfare law for the attorney general’s office. She received a master’s degree in philosophic theology at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell. She entered Regina Laudis in 1996. About 100 nuns, priests and laypeople participated in the ceremonies. Archbishop Henry J. Mansell presided. Sister Noella Marcellino, who helped prepare the liturgy, said it was the first time the abbey has combined monastic consecration and perpetual vows in one ceremony. (Photos by Jack Sheedy)
