Archbishop Henry J. Mansell of Hartford; Msgr. Daniel J. Plocharczyk, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in New Britain, and other priests lead a pro-life procession into Sacred Heart Cemetery for All Souls Day, 2013. The procession, which included hundreds of people, started at St. Lucian’s Home and ended at an altar in the cemetery, where Archbishop Mansell was the principal celebrant of the annual Mass in observance of All Souls Day, and the The congregation prayed for the deceased members of their families and others as well as the souls in Purgatory. The Archbishop blessed new land, the chapel, a columbarium and the altar at the cemetery. Also in the Polish tradition, attendees decorated graves of their loved ones with candles, votive lights, wreaths and potted flowers, predominantly chrysanthemums. The candles burned long into the night. (Photos by Eva Gryk)
