About 2,000 teenagers gathered on the grounds of the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary under cloudy skies on Sept. 12 for the fifth annual Catholic Youth Spectacular. The day featured prayer, music, fun and food, including games, music by the Christian rock band eXaudio, performances by young people and opportunities to visit tables set up by a variety of entities. Archbishop Henry J. Mansell celebrated Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was offered in the chapel inside and a number of priests were on hand to hear confessions. (Photos by Jack Sheedy)
Banners depicting the Archdiocese of Hartford and the archdiocesan Office of Religious Education lead the parade of saints in front of the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary.Young people relax under cloudy skies while listening to the program.Young men carry a colorful banner to let people know that they're from St. Rose of Lima Parish in New Haven.The Torrington Cluster of Catholic parishes (St. Francis of Assisi, St. Peter, Sacred Heart and St. Mary) and St. Louis Parish in West Haven are represented.The contingent from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol  walks in the parade of saints.Those in the parade of saints carried donations of shoes and socks that were to be distributed to people in Haiti, babies in a local crisis pregnancy center and shelters for the homeless.The young people from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury follow St. Rose of Lima in the parade of saints, during which "When the Saints Go Marching In" was played.Musician, comic and storyteller Jesse Manibusan engaged the crowd.The keynote speaker was Jesse Manibusan, a comic, musician and storyteller.
