The 2009 Catholic Youth Spectacular drew some 1,700 teens and young adults from throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford to New Britain Stadium for a baseball-themed youth rally on Sept. 20. Through all of the music, singing, dancing, acting, praying, eating and learning, the day was designed to bring each attendee an experience of God's transforming love and an awareness of the universal Church. The day's theme was "Beyond Sunday: Reading the Signs, Getting Home." Keynote speaker Steve Angrisano drew his audience in with music and movement, but locked attention on his experiences after the shootings at Columbine High School. Booths offered information about everything from women in religious life and men's vocations to the death penalty. The band eX, achdiocesan offices and ministries and the St. Gerard Center for Life crisis pregnancy center in Hartford. The day culminated with a Mass at which Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was the principal celebrant. (Photos by Mary Chalupsky, Carlos Aedo and Danielle Wilson)
