Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso presided over the Rite of Admission to Candidacy for the Permanent Diaconate on Nov. 20 in the chapel of St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Father Aidan Donohue, director of formation, called the seven candidates in the liturgy, and Bishop Macaluso delivered the homily. The seven new candidates will now begin four years of formal candidacy formation which precede ordination to the permanent diaconate. The candidates are Albert Cala of St. Mary Parish in Newington, Alfred Gambone of St. Francis Xavier Parish in New Milford, Michael Malfotana of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Oakville, John Thorpe of St. Dominic Parish in Southington, Vincent Raby of St. Thomas Parish in Southington, Robert Kiley of St. Peter Claver Parish in West Hartford and John Montalbano of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Rocky Hill.
